PRK LASEK APPLICATION

No incision is applied to the cornea. Only the epithelial tissue at the top of the cornea is peeled off and the laser is applied directly to the patient's cornea. Contact lenses are worn for 1-2 days after the operation to protect the corneal surface.

 ADVANTAGES

•  Low cost operation.
•  Can be applied to relatively thin corneas.
•  No risk of increasing intraocular pressure.
•  It does not damage the corneal sensory nerves.
•  It does not cause dry eye disease.
•  Preserves the biomechanical integrity of the cornea.

 DISADVANTAGES

•  Decreased corneal resistance, although biomechanical integrity is preserved.
•  Pain for 3-5 days after surgery, stinging, watering, visual deficiency complaints, workforce loss, long period of time to return to social life
•  Patient satisfaction is low in low number myopia.
•  The risk of haze (clouding in the cornea) in myopes greater than 5.0.
•  - Inability to do hyperopia and astigmatism greater than 2.
•  High risk of infection.
•  Long period of time to reach clear vision (3-4 weeks).
