GLAUCOMA

GLAUCOMA TREATMENT

Glaucoma, which is also known as "black water disorder", is a disease that occurs as a result of damage to the optic nerves due to the intraocular pressure.

Although glaucoma occurs very slowly in individuals, the vision quality of patients may decrease with the progression of the disease. Glaucoma can progress without any symptoms. This may cause irreversible damages to the optic nerve when it is noticed late.

 Who is at high risk of glaucoma?

Glaucoma can be seen in different groups of people with different characteristics. Briefly;

  •  Age factor: Glaucoma is seen more in patients 40 years old and older.
  •  It is a fact that glaucoma is associated with genetic predisposition.
  •  Systemic disorders: More common in the patients with hypothyroidism and diabetes
  •  Eye injuries can trigger glaucoma.
  •  Iritis, chronic uveitis, retinal detachment, and etc. Glaucoma risk increases in these cases.
  •  Glaucoma disease rate is higher in myopia.
  •  Long-term use of corticosteroids is another cause for glaucoma.
  •  High or low systemic blood pressure
  •  High levels of myopia or hyperopia

An eye examination is crucial for the individuals with at least one of these cases because they are at higher risk of glaucoma. Eye exam is very important for early diagnosis of glaucoma.
